Meet Sara Sheikh of Covered Bliss in Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Sheikh.

Sara Sheikh is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Covered Bliss. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Master’s degree in Cyber Security Engineering from Southern Methodist University. She is a mother of three who loves to empower her children and other young entrepreneurs. Since her driving purpose has been and will always be to serve others, she felt Covered Bliss is an absolute means to accomplish that. Even though she had no plan to own a business, she decided to create one as the need for modest clothing became so apparent and an urgent matter. Sara goes above and beyond serving through the one on one interaction with her clients and employees, reaching out to the less fortunate and participating in non-profit events.

Covered Bliss is a family-owned business with strong family ties and common belief in our mission. With the new addition of Sara’s daughter Newal as the Marketing Director, we will continue to build stronger Covered Bliss community.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nah. Was not a smooth ride at all times. We did grow quickly but scaling up has been the hardest.
My other challenge is also being a working mom in an IT field and trying to run a business that requires a lot of time and dedication.
Faced disappointments from those I expected to support.

Please tell us about Covered Bliss.
I started the journey to Covered Bliss six years ago with a passion to serve the modest fashion community. What started with selling clothing and unique household items, as a hobby, at home to a few friends and family is now a full production facility. When I realized how hot the unique abaya pieces were among my immediate circle, I decided to do a small open house. This open house was the turning point for my clothing line. The open house and the new abayas were a hit. Seeing the demand and how much my friends loved my small collection, I decided to go ahead and create a company and an online store…

Although sales and profit are a great goal, I find my purpose expands beyond making money. I want to support, uplift, and empower women especially within my Muslim community by creating a modest yet elegant clothing line. This balance of being modest and beautiful has been an issue Muslim women have had to struggle with far too long. I create garments which are both modest and high fashion to attend to any women of culture or religion who simply want to look fabulous! Covered Bliss is an inclusive and diverse brand with a variety of styles to choose from. The styles include, but are not limited, to Custom Bridal Dresses, kaftans (elegant embroidered dresses), Abayas, formal and casual wear.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Don’t rely on people to help you succeed, not even those you think are your friends. You have to work hard and stay focused to make your dream come true. Also, don’t try to do it all. Learn to delegate so you can free up your time to work on the most important aspect of your business

Pricing:

  • Custom Bridals Range $2,500-$10.000
  • Kaftans Range $89-$189
  • Clothing (Casual,Formal and others) Range $39-$289
